About Hymn
A Hymn is a song of praise for something, or someone, meaningful. The guitar as an instrument and music certainly earns to be praised and thus the name is fitting. It is also an anagram of the name of the builder, Michiel Nykamp. Reusing the letters and ending on the initials feels right.
Michiel started as an aeronautical engineering degree and to this present day, is active in the aerospace industry as an industrialization and program manager for aircraft components. Combining ambition, creativity, stubbornness (?) and professional background lit the fire to start Hymn Guitars as a company. Releasing an all new, clean sheet, guitar design into the world.
The offset design is a nudge to vintage designs from the 50’and 60’s, but with a modern take. Offset guitars offer an unprecedented feel of comfort and, let’s be honest, look cool and fast. The platform is fully customizable within a fixed set of parameters. You can personalize your guitar by choosing you own colors, pickguard materials, bridges, pickups, frets, tuners and neck sizes. So, go ahead, and play your own song!
No matter what you choose, or if you pickup one that is on stock at the dealer, you will receive a unique and lightweight guitar that will ring like a bell and play as good as the best in the market. Using tempered woods (pine and maple) will assure great resonance, feel and tone. Utilizing a PLEK-machine, CNC in combination with handcrafted attention to every detail, will provide a high quality product. The super thin nitrocellulose finish brings out the textured and unique look of the pine bodies. Not having that piano gloss finish is meant to encourage you to play and not worry about marks and scratches. It will quickly age and make it your guitar, your favorite, the one that just wants you to go at it. Play Your Own Song!
